SAG-AFTRA Talks Wrap Up: Negotiations Come To A Halt For Now

Negotiations between Hollywood's biggest union, SAG-AFTRA, and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for a three-year contract concluded this past weekend with a renewed sense of optimism, though no deal has been reached yet. Studio-side insiders described the talks as productive, as the two sides had yet to agree on all points, including the union's push for more streaming compensation and AI regulations.

The studios warned the union last week that if no resolution was found by the first week of November, their 2024 summer movie slates would be affected, potentially pushing talks off until after the new year. Following the weekend of talks, SAG-AFTRA tweeted that the two sides had discussed all open proposals and would be working independently on Monday.

In recent bargaining sessions, the union has proposed raising wage floors to account for inflation and improving streaming compensation for their members. Over the weekend, more than several thousand SAG-AFTRA members signed a letter in support of the union leadership, urging them to continue the strike until a good deal is reached.

A separate group of actors had drafted a critical letter of SAG-AFTRA leadership, but decided not to release it once the union returned to the bargaining table. As of now, expectations are high that the recent series of talks could lead to a tentative deal. Kim Masters contributed to the report.
