Universal and Blumhouse's Five Nights at Freddy’s has made a huge impact since its debut, earning $78 million on its opening day and receiving an A-CinemaScore from the audience, a rare feat for a horror movie. It has also become the third-biggest horror opening of all time in the US, the best showing ever for a Halloween weekend, and the biggest horror opening of 2023 to date. Additionally, the film has earned $52.6 million from its debut in 60 markets worldwide, making it the biggest worldwide start for a horror film this year.

The movie stars Josh Hutcherson as a washed-up security guard who is forced to take a job protecting a long-closed family-themed pizzeria. His task is further complicated when his 10-year-old sister (Piper Rubio) is put in his care and Aunt Jane (Mary Stuart Masterson) hires a group of local toughs to break into Freddy's. With the help of Kat Conner Sterling and Matthew Lillard, Jim Henson's Creature Shop's animatronic characters come to life and go on a violent rampage.

Universal insiders believe that the simultaneous release of the movie on Peacock and in theatres has been a success, allowing viewers to experience a communal horror movie experience in theatres, while Peacock works to bring in subscribers. The decision to do a day-and-date release was beneficial to the overall ecosystem, as only paid-tier Peacock subscribers have access to the movie.
