New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley underwent an MRI on Sunday after suffering an ankle injury during the team's Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The MRI revealed the severity of the injury, and the team is now awaiting the results for further updates.

According to reports, Barkley left Sunday's game with an ankle injury and did not return. He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, indicating that the injury could be serious. On Thursday, head coach Joe Judge said the team was still awaiting the MRI results.

Barkley is widely considered one of the most important players for the Giants, as he is often relied upon to create big plays and plays a crucial role in the team's offense. Last season, Barkley rushed for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also added 438 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

If Barkley is forced to miss any games, the Giants will rely on backups Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis to lead the ground attack. Gallman recorded a career-high 122 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Buccaneers on Sunday, while Lewis added 37 yards and a touchdown.

The Giants are next in action in Week 4 when they host the Washington Football Team on Sunday, September 27. Barkley's status for that matchup will depend on the outcome of his MRI.

The Giants have not made an official statement yet and it's unclear when the MRI results will be released. As of now, Giants fans can only hope for the best and hope that Barkley will be ready for Sunday's game.
