Justin Herbert, quarterback for the Chargers, had a great game, completing 31 of 40 passes for 298 yards, 3 touchdowns, no turnovers, and a 122.7 passer rating. He wasn't sacked once. On the other hand, Tyson Bagent, an undrafted rookie for the Bears, had a more difficult time, with 25 of 37 passes for 232 yards and two interceptions. The Bears lost the game, bringing their record to 2-6, and their defensive coordinator, Eberflus, said they didn't play complementary football.

The Bears' first play from scrimmage was a 41-yard pass to a diving Darnell Mooney, but after a sack on third-and-11, they were forced to punt. Herbert then threw touchdown passes on each of the Chargers' first two possessions, giving them a 14-0 first-quarter lead. A turnover on the Bears' next possession led to a field goal by the Chargers, widening the margin to 17-0. The Bears then cut the deficit to 17-7, but the Chargers responded with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Donald Parham Jr., increasing their lead to 24-7.
